The first plenary meeting of the Energy Preparation Group for Carbon Neutral Planning on Tsinghua University Campus was successfully held.

Prof. Fu Lin firstly introduced the preliminary idea of Tsinghua Campus Carbon Neutral Program, pointing out that the positioning of Tsinghua Campus Carbon Neutral Program is: to implement a replicable, scalable, safe, reliable, technically and economically feasible campus carbon neutral model, and at the same time, to provide a demonstration for the whole society. With this goal in mind, a set of campus carbon neutral energy system solutions for electricity, heat and gas synergy is proposed to realize the carbon neutral goal of the energy system without a significant increase in the comprehensive cost.

Academician Jiang Yi pointed out that carbon neutrality of heat supply is a difficult problem for carbon neutrality on Tsinghua campus, and that air-source heat pumps, ground-source heat pumps, and medium and deep geothermal heaters have their own limitations, making it difficult for them to be used comprehensively on campus. The synergistic carbon neutral system of electricity, heat and gas, with the help of cross-seasonal heat storage, can comprehensively utilize the waste heat emitted throughout the year from gas power generation, summer air conditioning heat dissipation in buildings, data centers, etc., and provide sufficient zero-carbon heat for winter heating.

Academician Zhuang Weimin pointed out that energy storage is the core issue of realizing campus energy carbon neutrality, and we should have the courage to experiment and explore, and with the progress of technological research in phases and in batches to implement, the first built small and medium-sized demonstration, and then the construction of full-scale heat storage facilities. Academician Zhuang also pointed out that carbon neutrality of the energy system is the core of campus carbon neutrality, and it is also the concentration of Tsinghua University's scientific and technological innovation.

Mr. Xu Peng from the Green University Office said that the whole university is encouraged by the Campus Carbon Neutrality Initiative, not only the leaders of the university have paid great attention to it, but also the teachers from all faculties are very active in wanting to take part in the initiative. It is hoped that the preparation team will be able to capitalize on this enthusiasm and gather strength to complete the tasks entrusted by the university.

A number of participating experts provided valuable comments and suggestions. Teachers from the Department of Electrical Engineering, the Climate Institute, the School of Vehicles and Transportation, the Department of Industrial Engineering, the School of Energy and Mobility, and the School of Architecture shared their research progress and achievements in the areas of zero-carbon electric power system, zero-carbon transportation, campus integrated control platform, biomass utilization, and campus photovoltaic.

The conference not only demonstrated Tsinghua University's scientific and technological innovation power in the field of campus carbon neutrality, but also highlighted the high concern and active participation of the whole university in carbon neutrality action. With the concerted efforts of the whole university, Tsinghua University is steadily advancing its campus carbon neutrality program towards the goal of building a zero-carbon campus.
